Bringing World-Class Diagnostic Imaging Closer to Home

My name is Dr. Adzira Thahal, and I am a Consultant Radiologist with a particular interest in musculoskeletal imaging. I am based in the United Kingdom, where I have lived for most of my life, but my roots are firmly in Nigeria.

Growing up, I travelled regularly between the UK and Nigeria to visit family. Over time, I began to notice a growing pattern: an increasing number of Nigerians were travelling abroad to access diagnostic imaging and specialist healthcare services.

While there is nothing inherently wrong with seeking treatment overseas, this raised an important question for me, what about those who are unable to travel? High-quality diagnostic imaging should not be a privilege limited by geography or affordability. Everyone deserves access to the same standard of care, close to home.

In 2010, while training as a radiologist, I made a commitment to myself. One day, I would establish a diagnostic imaging centre in Nigeria capable of delivering world-class scans, supported by expert reporting from radiologists holding the FRCR (Fellowship of the Royal College of Radiologists, UK) qualification, enabled through the use of teleradiology.

It was an ambitious vision, and one that required patience, resilience, and long-term planning. Today, I am proud to say that vision has become a reality.

Key Imaging is more than a diagnostic imaging service. It represents the values instilled in me by my parents. Their dedication, sacrifice, and belief in the power of education. It is my way of giving back and contributing to a future where Nigerians can access high-quality diagnostic imaging without having to leave the country.

This is just the beginning. I look forward to sharing this journey and continuing to build accessible, high-quality healthcare services for the communities we serve.
