From Imaging Centre to Outpatient Hub

The original vision was clear: to build a centre of excellence in diagnostic imaging. The focus was on delivering high-quality radiology services designed to support accurate and timely diagnosis.

However, as the physical space began to take shape, so too did a broader perspective.

When Vision Meets Opportunity

Designing a healthcare facility is never just about walls and equipment—it’s about how people move through space, how services connect, and ultimately, how patients experience care. As I reflected on how best to utilise the space, it became clear that limiting the model to diagnostic imaging alone would be a missed opportunity.

Instead, the concept evolved.

What began as a radiology-focused centre has now grown into a fully integrated outpatient hub— Key Place. A space designed to bring together multiple elements of patient care under one roof.

A One-Stop Outpatient Experience

At Key Place, patients will be able to access:

  • Specialist outpatient clinics, where consultants can assess and manage a wide range of conditions

  • Diagnostic radiology services, supporting both clinic-generated investigations and external referrals

  • Laboratory services, through strategic partnerships to enable timely testing and results

  • Pharmacy services, ensuring patients can access prescribed medications conveniently on-site

The aim is simple but powerful: to create a seamless, one-stop experience where patients can move efficiently from consultation to investigation and, where appropriate, to treatment—all within a single, coordinated environment.

A Global Shift in Healthcare Delivery

This evolution is not happening in isolation. Across healthcare systems globally, there is a growing recognition that acute care and outpatient care do not always need to sit within the same environment.

Many medical conditions can be effectively managed outside of traditional hospital settings. By separating routine and planned care from acute hospital services, healthcare systems can:

  • Improve efficiency

  • Reduce pressure on hospitals

  • Enhance patient experience

  • Deliver care in more accessible, community-focused settings

Bringing the Model to Nigeria

In Nigeria, where patients often navigate fragmented systems to access care, the need for integrated outpatient services is particularly pressing. Multiple visits to different facilities for consultations, tests, and medications can lead to delays, increased costs, and unnecessary stress.

Key Place is designed to address these challenges directly.

By co-locating services and fostering collaboration between clinicians, radiology, and partner providers, the aim is to:

  • Shorten the time from symptom to diagnosis

  • Improve coordination of care

  • Enhance overall patient satisfaction

  • Provide a more efficient and modern healthcare experience

Building for the Future

At the heart of this model is a commitment to continuous improvement. Beyond simply housing services together, we will focus on developing structured care pathways—clear, efficient routes that guide patients through diagnosis and management for specific conditions.

These pathways will be tailored to the needs of the Nigerian population, ensuring that care is not only high-quality but also relevant, accessible, and sustainable.

A Broader Purpose

The evolution into an outpatient hub reflects a larger ambition.

Key Place is not just a building—it is a step toward a future where healthcare is more connected, more efficient, and more patient-centred. It represents our contribution to a bigger goal: helping to create a system where every Nigerian has access to high-quality care, delivered in a way that respects their time, their needs, and their experience.

What started as a vision for diagnostic imaging has become something more—an integrated model of care designed for the realities of modern healthcare.

And this is just the beginning.
